A USING VARIOUS SENTENCE T YPES

Good writing uses a variety of SENTENCE TYPES:

• Statement — makes a statement * ends with a (.)

• Question — asks a question * ends with a (?)

• Command — gives a command * ends with a (.)

• Exclamation — shows strong feeling * ends with a (!)

EXAMPLE • Statement: T he house is on Elm Street.
We could not find her house.

• Question: D id you find the house?
Did you turn left?

• Command: Turn around and go back.
Knock on the door.

• Exclamatory: We finally found it!
We are here!
