B RECOGNIZING COMPLE TE SENTENCES

In writing, it is important to use COMPLETE SENTENCES. A COMPLETE
SENTENCE expresses a complete idea.

A COMPLETE SENTENCE has two parts:
• SUBJECT - tells who or what the sentence is about
• VERB - tells what the subject does or is

Sentences that are not complete are called FRAGMENTS.

EXAMPLE Look at the COMPLETE SENTENCE and FRAGMENTS below.

• Complete sentence: The boy swims in the pool.

• Fragments: The boy in the pool. No Verb
