B SUMMING IT UP

A CONCLUSION is the sentence that brings your paragraph to an end.
It “wraps it up” for your reader. Here are a few ways to write a good
CONCLUSION:

• Tell your main idea in different words
• Ask a question about the main idea
• Leave readers with a mystery
• Make a personal comment
Remember a CONCLUSION never adds new information.

EXAMPLE Here is a paragraph with 3 different CONCLUSIONS.

Planning a surprise birthday party can be very tricky.
First, you must keep it a secret. Also, your guests must
arrive early so they can hide. Don’t forget to hide the
presents too.

1. The main idea in different words:
You must be very clever to plan a surprise party!

2. A question about the main idea:
Could you keep a secret like this?

3. Make a personal comment:
I am an expert at planning surprise parties!
