CMath Vo abulary rhombus: a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides and four equal sides.

2. Have students circle all the rhombuses and 2 . Find all the rhombuses.
check answers with their classmates to see if 3 . Draw different rhombuses on the dot board.
they found them all.
Sample Answers
The second and third figures on the first line 88
and the second figure on the second line
have two pairs of parallel sides but do not
have four sides that are equal. They are not
rhombuses.( They are parallelograms.)

The fourth figure on the first line and the
third figure on the second line do not have
parallel sides. They are neither rhombuses
nor parallelograms.

3. Have the students draw rhombuses on the

grid. Then, have them find if any of the

figures are squares. Ask them to discuss if

squares can be classified as rhombuses.

Refer to .

3. Check Point

Rhombuses have four equal sides, and have
two pairs of parallel sides. Have the students
explore this on the next page.

Are rectangles and squares rhombuses, or not?

A rhombus is a quadrilateral that has two pairs of parallel sides and four sides that are equal. A square can be
classified as a rhombus because it has two pairs of parallel sides and four sides that are equal as shown in
the figure below. A rectangle cannot be classified as a rhombus because it does not always have four equal
sides.
