2. Have the students learn how to divide a
3-digit number by a multiple of 10.

Place the first digit.
Estimate to place the first digit in the
quotient.
What is the quotient of 360 50? About 7
What is the quotient of 370 50? About 7
In both estimates, the first digit is in the
ones place. So, place the first digit in the
ones place.
Divide the ones.
Multiply. 50 7 350
Subtract. 368 350 18
Compare. 18 50
Remainder 18
Check the answer.
7 50+18=350+18=368, it checks.
Have the students use the method shown
to find the quotient and remainder.

Problem:

needed in order to have the oranges be divided equally with no remainder?
Answer:
495 40 12 r15. In order to have no remainder, some oranges must be added to 15 to make it 40.
Since 40 15 25, 25 more oranges are needed.
