Activity 2 Division with the Smallest Quotient

jOb ective Make division sentences and solve.

1. Textbook Instructions

1. Have the students make division sentences
that divide a 3-digit number by a multiple of
10.

Lead the game for the students. Spin the
spinner 4 times to give the students the 4
numbers they must use.
Students will find the number cards of the
numbers called out by the teacher and
place it on the activity board. Students may
place the numbers wherever they like, but
they must not move the card once they
place it.
Have the students solve their division
problem. The student with the smallest
quotient, wins.

2. Build Understanding

Making the smallest quotient
In order to make the smallest quotient, make the dividend the smallest possible and the divisor the greatest.

The greatest Divisor Use all of the digits remaining after
of the 4 digits. placing the divisor to make the
0 smallest number.
