M any people have unusual pets. Of course,
people have popular pets like cats and dogs,
but there are people with special interests. Some
people have pigs as pets. Would you like to have a
pig in the house? Would it be too dirty? You
probably need a garden to raise a pig because it
would be difficult to raise one in an apartment.
Pigs are very friendly. They want to dig and play
around just like other animals.
Snakes are also unusual pets. Many people think snakes are dangerous, but
this is not true. Only poisonous snakes like cobras are dangerous, and
people rarely keep them as pets. Snakes do need a lot of special care. Their
cages need to be warm and comfortable. They also need live food. Most
snakes will only eat when they catch and kill the animal. (a) Many people
like watching their snakes hunt and kill their food, but some people think
this is cruel. (b) Finally, some snakes grow to very large sizes. (c) Sometimes,
they get too big for their owners to keep. (d) You should learn how big a
snake will get before you buy it.
