B WRI TING AN INFORMATIONAL PARAGRAPH
INFORMATIONAL PARAGRAPHS are written to explain a topic and to give
interesting information. An INFORMATIONAL PARAGRAPH should have
three basic parts:
• Main Idea — Tells the topic of the paragraph
• Details — Give more information about the topic
• Conclusion — Brings ideas in paragraph to an end
WARM UP Number these sentences 1-5 to create a good informational
paragraph.
Maybe one day everyone will have a bicycle!
Over 100 million bicycles are made each year.
Bicycle Motocross is now an Olympic sport!
1 Bicycles are very popular all over the world.
There are over half a billion bicycles in China.
SAMPLE A Trip to Kenya
Millions of people visit Kenya each year. They go there to see the
animals, like elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and zebras. They go
on safaris to see these animals in their natural habitats. Many of
these animals are not found anywhere else in the world. A trip to
Kenya would be very exciting!
