B WRITING A PROBLEM/SOLUTION
PROBLEM/SOLUTION is one type of persuasive writing. The writer
describes a PROBLEM and gives a few SOLUTIONS. The writer may also
ask the reader to take some kind of action. Keep your writing in the right
sequence:
1. PROBLEM 2. IMPORTANCE 3. SOLUTION 4. ACTION
WARM UP Look at the PROBLEM and find the best SOLUTION for it.
Sitting with friends can be distracting in class.
Write notes to your friends instead of talking to them.
Ask the teacher to move you to a different seat.
Leave your friends and go to a different school.
SAMPLE Being a New Kid
Have you ever been to a new school? It’s tough being the “new kid.”
New kids may not have any friends, or know their way around the
school. We need to help these new students feel welcome at our
school. I think we should start a club. Each member could be a “guide”
for a new student. The guide’s job would be to introduce him to other
kids, and to show him all around the school. They could stay together
all day for a week. If you would like to join this club, meet in Room
222 tomorrow at 3:30. You might make a new friend too!
