Here is an old folk tale from India.
The Hidden Treasure
Many years ago, a very poor man bought
some land. One day, while he was plowing it,
he found an iron box buried in the soil. It was
filled with gold coins. Since he was an honest
man, he quickly went to the previous owner of
the land and showed him the treasure.
But the previous owner would not take it. He said, “The treasure would be mine if I
had found it. Maybe my ancestors hid it in the land. Since you found it, it belongs to
you.” But the honest man said, “I found it, but I did not bury it. It is not mine either.”
Finally, the two men decided to divide the treasure.The poor man and the previous
owner would each take half. They divided the gold coins between their two boxes.
When each man looked into his box, suddenly it was full! They each had the full
amount of coins!
Lesson of the story: A generous spirit is often rewarded.
