Steven Papp and Geoff Thompson, 2003.

           Objectives

By the end of the lesson learners should be able to create a Resources
food web using identified animals from the school grounds. (See
website for web address) • Food chain task

Clear a notice board/wall for the food web. Put up a large paper
picture of a tree, shrub or groundcover. • Construction paper
                                                                                         • Paper glue
             2. Learners complete food webs based on one animal found or • Scissors
observed in their school grounds. • Colouring pens
                                                                                         • Yarn
                                                                                         • Magazines,
             3. Learners draw a picture of the selected animal and write newspapers
information about where it lives, what it eats, what its • access to websites
predators are and how it protects itself on the task sheet.

             4. Let learners use the tree picture as the basis for the food
web, placing around the tree any animals that feed on it and
placing any predators next to their prey.
                                                                                         Useful Websites
             5. Label each animal as it is placed in the food web. Link each
animal to its prey or food using string. This completed food http://www.environment.

             Extended learning activities

Learners create a model of their animal using a range of craft
and natural materials. Learners should examine the supplied
materials and consider which materials will be most appropriate
             for their model.
Completed models or worksheets are used to create a class
             display on food chains/webs.
