Social Media Musings – Part III My Reflections on the Practice and Life
firms who can lead, and to lead one needs a vision, a plan to achieve the vision and accountability to ensure the plan is enacted.
The Coronavirus has taught all law firms to have a contingency plan in case the unexpected occurs.
With the Coronavirus, your firm should
be increasing its online educational and instructional content for your clients and prospective clients. Folks aren’t traveling now but they still need the information you were going to provide at the conference that was canceled.
It’s not enough for your law firm to rule
by fiat - let’s have a plan to respond to the Coronavirus. You need to think through all the contingencies, obstacles and concerns and have a plan to address them.
With travel shut down, conferences canceled and restaurants closed, use social media and your phone to stay in touch with your network and contacts.
As a profession, no one should be trying to take advantage of opposing counsel in these uncertain times.
For those working from home, as best as you can, separate your work space from your home space.
If you’re a voluntary bar association, expect:
◗ Expect members to slow pay their memberships. Don’t drop their memberships or cut off their benefits.
◗ Create a zoom conference, preferably weekly, where firms can discuss
best practices to responding to the Coronavirus.
With many of us at home, now is a good time to dust off marketing and personal development projects that you haven’t had time for and tackle them.
For those of you watching movies to pass the time while confined to home, re-watch some classic legal dramas:
◗ To Kill a Mockingbird ◗ 12 Angry Men
◗ The Verdict
◗ Anatomy of a Murder
This ordeal has taught firms the importance of having and implementing processes.
A well conceived and executed case management process where everyone on your team knows her role in advancing the client’s needs and wants and achieving the client’s goals allows a firm to work remotely without missing a step.
Stick to your schedule. Exercise at home. Walk your dog. Speak to family over the phone. Don’t become claustrophobic. You got this.
If your firm is having weekly calls or zoom meetings, start each meeting asking each person how they are doing and what needs, if any, they have.
◗ ◗
To cancel all in person events for the next several months.
In the short term, and possibly mid-term, push all education online.
