HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENTS
In a challenging year it was pleasing to see that high school participation increased in interschool tournaments. 2020 saw its highest number of teams entered into a Year 10 3x3 interschool event, attracting schools from all across the metropolitan region.
BWA along with SSWA expect to see continual growth in the area with high demand for increased numbers of high school events across a larger range of high school year groups.
SEDA
Basketball WA continues to support the basketball classes of SEDA for both Year 11 and 12’s by providing them with opportunities to grow and develop their skills and knowledge of the game. Over 28 students gained grassroot basketball coaching and referring qualifications along with upskilling a further 27 Yr 12 students to gain Level 1 qualifications.
SEDA Basketball students put these newfound skills into practise by officiating our School Slam Series and delivering coaching clinics to the primary schools of Perth.

The Community Hustle program reached the furthest region of Western
Australia, with programs running in our Great Southern and in our Kimberly region.
A key attribute to the success of the program was the ability to leave pieces of equipment at the different program delivery locations including: 3x3 bibs, reversible bibs and facilitator shirts. This allows for the continual success of these programs to last long after the schedule program finishes. For many programs
in our regional areas, participants don’t have access to balls and bibs.
By running a Community Hustle program in these areas it provides the participants with regular access to balls and therefore increases the amount of basketball played in that region.
3X3 COMMUNITY
HUSTLE
3x3 basketball is booming in WA especially at a grassroots level. Many local governments are also seeing this trend and are using 3x3 to deliver community benefit programs at established outdoor courts.
In 2020 Basketball WA entered into a partnership agreement with Basketball Australia and 3x3 Hustle to deliver a national program ‘Community Hustle’ throughout Western Australia. The program's objective is to engage with non-traditional basketball consumers, promoting physical activity and to engage people in the fun new format of basketball.
In 2020 the Community Hustle program
allowed BWA to deliver the following outcomes:
164 Programs
30 Different locations
1730+ Participants
15 Different local organisations.
