  3X3 HUSTLE AT PCYC
3x3 Hustle Program was delivered in partnership with PCYC. The program provided basketball sessions infused with education and life-skills. Sessions were available for all 11-18 years olds. 20-week programme offered the opportunity for young people to shape their own programme and access the information that they need to develop. Sessions included 3X3 drills and skills development, goal setting (within and beyond session). Participants were also encouraged to undertake Coaching and Referee qualifications to assist and grow PCYC and ensure that young leaders and coaches are recruited directly from the programme whilst acting as powerful peer role models and mentors.
SWDP
The South West Development Program (SWDP) was launched back in 2019.
The 2020 program focused in on being professional and aimed to develop basketball athletes on and off the court – physical conditioning, flexibility, professionalism (how to take care of your body and nutrition.
The program saw over 80 athletes’ jump on court and enjoy the sessions led by SW Regional Development Manager as well as guest coaches and presenters from all areas of sport and athlete development to prepare athletes for success in future BWA High Performance Programs.
REGIONALS
2020 might have been a challenging year, but back in November South West Regionals proved exactly how much people in South love their basketball! Six Carnivals coordinated by South West Slammers saw over 300 games played, 1000 athletes compete and over 80 coaches and Officials volunteer their time. 11 local associations, as well as Albany and Pinjarra joined the competition. South West Regionals is always an exciting competition and a great build up to BWA State and Country Champs.
STATE TITLES
For the first time State Championships saw a team from South West enter the competition.
South West Slammers and BWA SW selected teams to represent the South West region at the 2020 BWA State Titles on the last weekend of the State Championships. It was a great opportunity for local athletes and coaches and saw nine teams travel to Perth.
This also allowed nine Regional Assistant Coaches to travel with more experienced WABL Coaches and learn across the weekend.
Program ran successfully with two experienced coaches and several volunteers. It was high energy, great enthusiasm and lots of passion for basketball! The participants had opportunity to develop and enhance their skills with drills and skills, with the 3x3 game a definite highlight. Participants all commented a desire to return to the program.
