FUEL TO GO & PLAY CHAMPIONS CUP
Goldfields were given the opportunity to hold a Fuel to Go & Play School Slam Series in June 2022, which was attended by 6 different schools from the Goldfields Region.
The winning schools of each age group where invited to attend the Champions cup in Perth in November. St Mary’s Primary School travelled to Perth with their winning Boys and Girls sides to participate in the Champions Cup.
This was a great opportunity for all players and coaches to develop and learn basketball skills and play against other regionals and metro primary schools.
FUEL TO GO & PLAY STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
After a 10-year absence, the Kalgoorlie Boulder Basketball Association (KBBA) attended the Fuel to Go and Play State Championships, with fantastic contingent of players and coaches. The KBBA sent away 7 teams over 3 weeks of the championships.
We are extremely proud of all our competing sides who all performed at high levels throughout the championships demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship and team basketball.
We were especially pleased by our U11 Boys, U17 Girls and our U17 Boys teams who all came home as Champions in their respective divisions.
Our successful return to the WA State Championships has been as a result of our Northern Star Academy Program over the past 12 months. The program focus has been on the fundamental skills of basketball and working on the Goldfields Style of Play.
NORTHERN STAR ACADEMY/ NORTHERN STAR DIGGERS PROGRAM
This year we have revamped our high- performance programs to include kids age 9-12 years old, this program was previously for children aged 13 years and up.
With the introduction of our Northern Star Academy program and the Northern Star Digger program children aged 9-18 years from the Goldfields region have been provided the opportunity to continue to develop their basketball skills over 12 months of the year. This has resulted in a number of children trial and represent the Goldfields at the high-performance development programs in Perth WA.
GIANTS IN SCHOOL VISITS
For the first time since 2019 that this program has been run in any local schools. The Giants in school program was run during Term 2 in 2022.
All Goldfields schools were invited to register for this program, we had 9 local primary schools in the program.
NBL 1 Giants men and women players would attend schools each week and run fundamental basketball sessions including developing dribbling, shooting, passing and having fun games where they were able to showcase for 45min – 1hour sessions. The children were able to meet some of the Giants NBL 1 men and women players and learn some new basketball skills.
What an amazing year of basketball in the Goldfields region we have had. So many new exciting programs and achievements throughout the year.
