Get Ready, Dartmouth. Lily Johnson is On Her Way
 By Brittany amalfi
Education and learning sig- nificantly impact all students, but for some, they can go above and beyond. Lily Johnson, Franklin High School senior, has certainly done just that when it has come to not only her education expe- rience but also her life experi- ence. Lily Johnson certainly has an impressive track record when it comes to everything she has accomplished during her high school years.
Lily started her schooling in Franklin when she went to Kin- dergarten. Then, she attended a private school from the 1st to 8th grade. After that, she attended a Christian School during her freshman year, and then Lily decided she wanted to return to Franklin to finish her high school experience. “My experience at Franklin has been quite nice,” Lily informed me. “My first year was hybrid, but the last two have been normal.” Everyone cer- tainly had a different high school experience due to COVID, and Johnson said that one could tell how students were affected by all of it. Still, Johnson didn’t let that affect her studies.
The high school senior is tak- ing five honors courses and an AP class at the moment. She is enrolled in AP Calculus, Anat- omy and Physiology, Compo- sition, Spanish 5, Physics, and a private study for Social Stud-
ies. She is also part of the New Hampshire Scholars and takes core classes in which she is part of the STEM version. When asked what her favorite subjects are, Johnson giggled. “I guess you could say all of them, but I would say I enjoy Science and English the most.”
Last year, Lily had the oppor- tunity to apply to the Yale Young Global Scholars. “My guidance counselor reached out to me di- rectly, and I decided to go for it.” Johnson ended up getting into the program, and it was the spe- cific session she wanted. “That was an amazing experience,” Johnson gushed. “It makes me look forward to what I will expe- rience at Dartmouth.”
Lily’s academic achievements aren’t the only impressive part. She is also a member of multiple organizations at Franklin High School. She serves as the Presi- dent of both the National Honor Society and the student council. She is also on the Student Ath- letic Leadership Team (SALT) and is a three-sport athlete, par- ticipating in soccer, indoor track, and outdoor track.
Johnson said her experience with the SALT is terrific. They did a few different service pieces this year, one being a drug pre- vention program and another being them raising money for food drives. “I like the principles the team was founded on,” John-
son added.
Lily also serves as the school
board representative, where she does her best to advocate for the school and what is best for it. She attends the school board meetings every month and told me that her experience with the local government had helped immensely. “I enjoy being the
school board rep,” Johnson said. “There are definitely some inter- esting moments, and I’m getting valuable experience.”
Speaking of valuable experi- ence, Johnson said that she en- joys gaining as much of it as she can. “One of my efforts during NHS was that we decided to reach out to the city manager
and mayor to see if there was anything we could collaborate on, which led to our involve- ment in the recycling program. We have been to meetings, and there has been some great col- laboration. So we’re doing what we can to help them.”
With the spectacular accom- plishments of this teenager, one would not be surprised that she is doing Early Admission to Dartmouth College. Johnson is embarking on the pre-medical track with the goal of becoming a naturopathic physician.
Lily enjoys skiing and moun- tain biking in her free time (be- cause, yes, she does have a bit believe it or not). Lily also told me that her group of friends is very supportive of her endeav- ors. “My friends have been sup- portive of my academic success. I surround myself with people who have similar goals and who teach me about myself.”
Lily Johnson has truly made her mark on Franklin High- school with all of her achieve- ments in efforts in her short time here. Her eagerness to learn and ambition to gain real-life ex- perience has already made her accomplish so much. Her drive to learn about the world around her will follow her as she gets older, and she is ready to take Dartmouth, and the world, by storm.
