Toastmasters Area 15 Humorous Speech Contest Winners
PLYMOUTH — Laugh- ter filled the virtual corridors at the Area 15 Humorous Speech Contest last week. Ruth Hol- leran, from Chester, VT, took first place with her speech, “The Moral Corruption of the Elec- tric Bike.” Second place went to David Dougher, from He- bron, NH, with his speech titled “Why I Don’t Ski.” Iva Roger de Coverley, from West Lebanon, NH, came in third place with her speech, “The Phone Call.” First-place winner Ruth Holle- ran advances to the Division A Contest, which will be held virtu- ally on Saturday, December 16, 2023. The online contest show- cased the humorous talents of our Toastmasters and provided a joyous evening for the audience.
The purpose of a speech con- test is to provide an opportunity for speakers to improve their speaking abilities, to recognize individual Toastmasters as an encouragement to members, and to provide an opportunity for all
Toastmasters to learn by observ- ing speakers who have benefited from their Toastmasters training.
Area 15 includes clubs in New Hampshire and Vermont.
Division A contains several areas within District 45, which is comprised of New Hampshire, Eastern Vermont, Maine, the three eastern provinces of Can-
ada, and Prince Edward Island. Toastmasters International is the premier non-profit commu- nications and leadership devel- opment program in the world. Guests are welcome at Toastmas- ters contests and other events.
