Coach John Daly is returning as our head girls coach, and he will be coaching sprints, hur- dles, and high jumpers. Coach Mike LaPlume is returning as the head boys coach, coach- ing distance, throws, and some vaulters. Coach Jacob Morel has been a volunteer for us the past couple of seasons. He is officially on our coaching staff this year, and he will handle horizontal jumps and some relays for us. The newest coach on our staff is Coach Justin Tinker, he will be our strength and conditioning coach, as well as shot put.
We will have a few volunteer coaches helping us out from time to time as well this season. Kendra LaPlume, or "Coach K" will be coaching vaulters, Jason Roberts will be helping with some throws, and legendary Coach Dave Irving will be help- ing our distance athletes have more fun on their training runs this season.
The Newfound Girls’ Track and Field team is coming off a season in which they won the first Division 3 state team cham- pionship in school history, and begin the 2023 season looking to repeat as team champions. New- found brings back the defending Division 3 champion and run- ner-up in the pole vault, seniors Taylor Mooney and Mikayla Ulwick. Senior Malina Bohl- mann returns as the defending Division 3 champion in the jav- elin and finished 3rd in the long jump. Also in the jumps, senior Gretchen Reynolds returns from her 3rd place finish in the high jump, and junior Laurel McKel- lar may also score state points in the triple jump. Senior captain Leah Deuso returns in the dis- tance events and hopes to score forusasamemberofour4x 800m relay team. Sophomore Elle MacDonald leads in the sprints, finishing in the top 5 in the 100m & 200m last season as
a freshman. Junior Soraya Glid- den is a threat to score in the 400m. Newfound also features one of the best hurdlers in New Hampshire, last year’s Division 3 300m hurdles runner-up, ju- nior Stacia Paul. Paul, Glidden, and MacDonald will combine to defend Newfound’s Division 3 championship in the 4x100m relay. The throwing events will feature Bohlmann and Ulwick in the javelin, junior Isabelle LaPlume, a New England Championship qualifier last year, in discus, and sophomore Isadora Robert in the shot put.
Up-and-comers to watch in- clude junior Mika Austin, who has qualified for two consecu- tive state meets in the high jump and returns for a third season. Sophomores Isabella Valliere and Jordan Edwards are coming off promising freshman seasons to add depth in the sprints. New- found will also have a lot of help from incoming freshmen in the middle and long-distance events,
with Ceili Irving and Reece Cut- ting joining the team. Fellow freshman Leah McFarland will add depth to Newfound’s short and middle-distance crews, as well as freshman Liliane Whit- tum in the jumps and hurdles. McFarland will also add some depth to our throws crew in javelin, along with junior Isa- bel Braley, who is moving from sprints to throws this season.
The boys’ side is hoping to break into the top 5 of Division 3 as a team. Newfound returns several key athletes. Senior Dal- ton Dion, the Division 3 cham- pion in pole vault is back, and we expect him to do well in all the jumps, and possibly other events. Senior captain Trevor Sanschargrin is our best-return- ing thrower, with expectations to continue to improve and score well in the state meet. Senior Logan Hinton will run sprints, mid distance, and possibly some hurdles. Senior Brady MacLean will throw shot put, and compete
in sprinting events. Senior Jack Ehmann will vault and throw javelin. Junior Issac Robert will throw all three implements. Senior captain Ben LaPlume, senior captain, Jeffrey Huckins, and junior Even Foster will hold down the distance events, and Jeffrey will also do some pole vaulting. Junior Will Bednaz will return in the vault and some throws. In the sprints we are returning a talented 200m and 400m runner, sophomore Tea- gan Drake.
As for up-and-comers, senior exchange student David Ro- driguez will do very well in the jumps. Sophomore Wyatt Nor- cross who will most likely be a multi-athlete. Freshman Kason Knight who will throw shot put, jav, and possibly some discus. Freshman Josh York will be a sprinter who throws some jave- lin. Freshman Kelton Austin will run distance events and possibly some pole vaulting.
