and Paul, Steve, and Fred of the Common Landscaping Com- mittee could be seen planting an American Yellowwood tree and a flowering Dappled Wil- low, bringing the total of new young trees to 18. Committee Chair Fred Kohout said among the other new additions were red maples, pin oaks, a few birch trees, and even a disease-re- sistant Princeton American Elm. That now brings the total number of trees back to 31 of them surrounding the Hebron Common and maintaining the character of the Hebron Village District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
Besides proper maintenance and fertilization of both the older and newer trees, shrubs, and gardens, the committee will be building a new star-shaped base around the flagpole as they wait for warm summer days when people can get out to enjoy all the improvements they’ve made.

HEBRON – Arbor Day was designated as April 25th this year in New Hampshire, but recognition of the day people are encouraged to plant a tree took place last Tuesday in He- bron instead, when members of the Common Landscaping Committee were able to plant two more trees on the town common.
The committee was first es- tablished in 2016, and at that time, Terrain Planning and De- sign LLC of Bedford was asked to evaluate the 31 old trees lo- cated on and around the com- mon. The trees were assigned numbers, and each was given a rating on its condition. Then, recommendations were made as to which could be saved and which should be removed.
That committee later dis- banded, but the town main- tained the tree survey for future reference.
In 2022, a new committee
Hebron Common Tree Planting
was formed to consider those recommendations and plant gardens around the new town offices, paint the flagpole, re- furbish the gazebo, plan a play- ground, install benches, and build a Bocce ball court (by special request). Their ultimate mission was to create a town common that could be used and enjoyed by all while still accom- modating the Hebron Church Fair and other special events.
Since that time repairs have been made to the gazebo, along with a fresh coat of paint. Gar- dens now flourish in front of the town offices, the Bocce ball court is in use and a picnic table and two memorial benches are in place.
Looking at the previous tree survey, the committee found 13 of them were no longer on the common, so the replanting pro- cess got underway, beginning with the donation of two trees from the N.H. Electric Cooper- ative and one through a private

donor. Two others were diseased and, therefore, removed and replaced. By April 2023, the healthy trees had received some
pruning and fertilization, while 11 more new trees were planted. Fast forward to when April of 2025 rolled around again,
