“Slim” Baker, a dedicated and much-loved local conservation officer with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Slim dreamed of setting up a “school for outdoor living” in the Newfound Lake area, and the Slim Baker Area is the fulfillment of that dream. The Slim Baker Area is maintained by the Slim Baker Foundation, and is open year-round for hiking, snow- shoeing, and camping. StoryWalk®: August 26, 2023 – October 1, 2023
Come one, come all, and enjoy a summertime StoryWalk® along the wooded acreage of the Slim Baker Conservation Area in Bristol, NH. The chosen book
is Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey. Pages of the book will be spaced apart along a path, and participants can read the story while spending quality time outdoors connecting with nature.

Hawk Watch & Slim Baker Day: September 17, 2023, 10am-2pm
Hike up to Inspiration Point for a chance to view the start of the annual fall hawk migration. Many raptors, including Hawks, typically migrate from Septem- ber through November. They move along ridgelines and float gracefully along air currents. Bring your binoculars, patience, and sense of adventure while waiting to spot the movement of a hawk along the horizon. From the porch of the Slim Baker Lodge, a tribute to the life and legacy of Everett “Slim” Baker will be on display for all to view.
