“Platoons tighten up your formation, we are in a Company screen
line. You’ve got vehicles straggling. Tighten it up. Look to your left, look to
          you right. “
“Roger that Delta 6. The smoke is laying in thick on us over here.
Causing us a little grief on the line of sight orientation.”
And truly the wind had shifted and brought thick smoke from
burning oil wells back on top of us. Delta was rolling through the thick
intermittent smoke at this point. Gunny wanted to move up next to the LAV-
25s, so I gunned the logistics vehicle and became part of the screen line.
Nothing but bad guys to our direct front. As Delta Company traversed around
more debris and terrain features, progress was going well despite the driving
          hardships.
The radio cracked over with an excited voice from SSgt Eby, “Delta 6,
Delta 6 I’ve got an enemy truck 150 yards driving straight at me. Requesting
          permission to open fire.”
1stLt G. Sadowski came over the net, “Break, break, I see the truck as
well. My gunner has him in his sight. We too are requesting permission to
          fire.”
Delta 6 came back, “Can you be sure of your target? Is this an
          enemy vehicle for certain?”
SSgt Eby responded, “Roger Delta 6, there is no mistake. This is an
enemy victor and they are continuing to get closer. Again, requesting
          permission to open fire!!!”
Fire at will!!” I say again, Fire at will! All Delta Company vehicles halt!
Delta One take your shot.” And with that, two LAV-25s opened up with the
M242 Bushmaster chain guns, firing high explosive rounds into the oncoming
truck. Approximately eight rounds of high explosive 25mm main gun flew
into the oncoming truck. Detonating with eight different explosions, bringing
          the truck to a halt.
1stLt G. Sadowski burst over the net, “Delta 6, Delta 6, this is Delta
One, we got him. The vehicle has stopped moving. Let’s investigate.”

Gunny and I had ringside seats and had watched the event unfold as
the truck was almost directly in front of us and the LAV-25 gunfire had
erupted from our right. “Delta 6, Delta 6, this is Delta 7. I’m observing enemy
troops exiting the vehicle. I’m moving to intercept. Send two 25s up for
