TOW rocket launchers, massive logistics trucks, Humvees pulling trailers
were all stretched out as far as the eye could see. I breathed in a deep breath
and sighed. Truly I was mesmerized by it all.
I had on my Kevlar helmet and was able to hear the chatter on the
radios as Delta 6 and the XO chattered back and forth. A few moments later
the radios went dead silent. The sun was peeking over the horizon and I
turned and faced the sun, seeking some warmth; it was a big ball of orange
rising at an incredible speed over the armada of American war machines.
And indeed, a reprieve from the long night of darkness with the breaking of
the beautiful dawn.

I Bet it’s the Oil Wells
AS WE ENTERED THE FIRST MINEFIELD A HORRIFIC SCENE WAS DEVELOPING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MINEFIELD.
MY FIRST THOUGHTS WERE THAT IT WAS THE “OIL-FILLED MOAT” BEING PREPARED TO TRAP US AS DESCRIBED BY S-2.
IT TOOK GUNNY AND A GOOD PAIR OF BINOS TO FINALLY COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THESE WERE OIL WELLS SET
ON FIRE BY RETREATING IRAQI SOLDIERS. THE SMOKE AND FIRE WOULD HAUNT US THROUGHOUT THE INVASION.
