If the stopper hitch fails you, try the Timber Hitch, a great choice for picking
up a long, round timber or spar. But if it’s a bucket or barrel you’re lifting, you
won’t find a simpler, more effective knot than the Barrel Hitch finished off with
a Bowline (see below).
