I know you are thinking what possible benefits come from this and how could I
have helped? Well, besides doing their Admin in the background and teaching the
girls how to twirl a baton at the forefront, it also helps them with their Hand-Eye
Co-ordination, Ambidexterity, How to be a Team Player, enhances Motor Skills,
provides Exercise, increases Flexibility and most importantly they have FUN!!!
The most recent competition they took part in was the All Ireland Championships
held in Dublin in April 2017. They travelled on Friday and competed on Saturday
and Sunday. The parents spent from 6am on Saturday morning getting their own
children and other children ready, they then continued to the
cold Hall where they sat on chairs cheering on the Club. I was on the side-line for every
child’s performance and screamed
at an insanely high pitch, as they
were fantastic and my heart
almost burst with pride!!
This competition went on until
late Sunday evening and when the
results were called out and each
and every one of the kids came
home with an award, all of the
volunteers and parents started
crying (myself included I am not
ashamed to admit!) Our next
adventure with the Club is
another National Championships
and this takes place in Cork in
November.
So that is why I invest my time with these AMAZING
children and of course the wonderful volunteers. Even
though the work is hard, the reward is extremely
humbling!
