PURPOSE
To practice teamwork
DESCRIPTION
If a team is working well together, they should be able to tackle any basic task, not just those related to their job. This could include managing a lemonade stand, planning a party or in this case, playing a word game. During this activity, participants should think about how they are acting as a team and their strategy.
PARTICIPANTS Groups of 3-7
TIME
10 minutes in groups 10 minutes to debrief
SUPPLIES See first step
Steps:
• Make copies of the next page – one copy per team. Cut out each individual word. Make an envelope for each category and put those words in it. Also make an envelope with ten pieces of blank paper.
• Divide the team into groups of 3-7. Each member gets at least one envelope.
• Each team has to make up as many sentences using as many words as they can in 10 minutes. They may use each blank to write in other words or write prefixes or suffixes to add to existing words. After 10 minutes, call “stop.”
• Each team should read off their sentences. One point is assigned for every word not used, 2 points for every blank not used and -1 for every bonus word used. The team with the least amount of points wins.
• Have teams talk about their strategies and where they feel they succeeded as a team and where they struggled.
