PURPOSE
To evaluate the team as a reminder and motivator to stick to principle values of teamwork.
DESCRIPTION
The team rates itself on team values.
PARTICIPANTS Team
TIME
About 5 minutes for each quality
SUPPLIES
Flipchart and markers, small pieces of paper and pens
Steps:
• Have the group brainstorm qualities of good teamwork. For example: Each team member’s voice is equal and heard. Or, there is a feeling of openness and trust in our team. Write them on a flip chart. Decide on one or a few or several that the group feels are most important.
• Give each person a piece of scrap paper for each quality. It can be just a few inches big. For each quality, ask team members to evaluate the team on a scale of 1 to 5. One being “is not,” 2 being “is occasionally,” 3 being “is half of the time,” 4 being “is most of the time,” and 5 being “is all the time.” Ask them to write the number on their piece of paper and pass it to you.
• On a flipchart list the qualities vertically and write the numbers 1 through 5
across the top. Record each response for each quality on the flip chart. After all are accounted for, evaluate the results. How many 5s? How many 4s? etc. Ask the group why they think there are so many 3s (for example). What could be done to have more 4s? Process each quality like this. Make an action plan to improve where you can and celebrate growth.
