PURPOSE
To follow up on training or decisions made by team members.
DESCRIPTION
Participants write themselves a letter to be opened at a later date explaining what they have learned, what they intend to do about it and the outcomes they hope to see.
PARTICIPANTS any number
TIME
10 minutes in two meetings
SUPPLIES
pens, paper and an envelope for each participant
Steps:
• Give each person a piece of paper, pen and envelope. Ask them to write a letter to themselves that will be opened in a month (or whatever time you decide).
In the letter they should write:
• what they have learned in this training or about the changes being made • what they intend to do about it in the next month
• what outcomes they hope to see
Ask them to put the letter in their envelope, seal it and write their name on it.
• After the agreed amount of time, give participants their letters. Bring the original group back together and ask them to pair up.
• The pair should share with each other what was in their letters and how their predictions turned out. Were they met? How? Were they not met? What could still be done to meet them? (As the facilitator, you may want to share something from you own letter to encourage sharing in others.)
