PURPOSE
To highlight leadership qualities.
DESCRIPTION
The group will brain storm leadership qualities and vote on which they think are most important.
PARTICIPANTS 8 or more
TIME
5-10 minutes for brainstorming, a minute of each participant’s time during a break or over a period between team meeting, another 5-10 minutes for debriefing
SUPPLIES flipchart and markers, three stickers for each participant
Steps:
• Ask the group to brainstorm qualities of good leadership, perhaps thinking of famous leaders or people in their lives who have exemplified good leadership to give them ideas. List the qualities on a flip chart giving plenty of space to the right of each word.
• After you have the list, hand out three stickers to each person. Hang the flip chart somewhere that is will be easily accessible. Ask participants to vote for the qualities they think most important over a break in the session or over the period of time before the next meeting.
• Each person may use their three stickers(votes) however they like. One sticker for three different qualities, two on one and one on another, or all three on one. (This is called weighted voting and can be done for any sort of decision-making where there are several choices. You can also use more than three stickers.)
• After votes have been cast and the group gathers again, look at which qualities people thought were most important. Ask for volunteers to give examples of how those qualities could be put into practice in your organization.
