PURPOSE PARTICIPANTS To identify resistance in the organization Team
and look at how you might combat it.
DESCRIPTION
Using an equation, the group figures out if there are enough positive factors to combat resistance.
TIME 20 minutes
SUPPLIES flipchart and markers
Steps:
• On a flip chart write the equation: DxVxF>R. Explain the equation to the group. Dissatisfaction multiplied by vision multiplied by first steps must be greater than the resistance to the change.
• Underneath, write “dissatisfaction” and ask the group to give examples of things in the current system, the traditional/institutional model of care, with which they are dissatisfied.
• Do the same thing with “vision” – what do we value? What would we like to work toward? And “first steps” – what are we doing to move in that direction?
• Now, ask the group how, where and what kind of resistance to the change are they seeing?
• Then ask, “How can we add to, strengthen and spread dissatisfaction, vision and first steps throughout the organization?”They may even be department specific.
