Andrew has taken great pleasure in personal travel as well as planning and leading language-rich travel experiences for student groups.
Andrew has also committed considerable voluntary time to advocating and supporting quality languages education in Victoria through his involvement in professional teacher associations. This includes: the Association of French Teachers’ of Victoria (AFTV) as a former committee member and Past- President; and the Modern Language Teachers’ Association of Victoria in his roles as committee member, treasurer and President (current).
Kylie Farmer, Vice-President
Kylie has been an active member of the MLTAV committee since 2000 and was also Vice-President from 2004 -15. She stepped down from this role and continued as a general committee member when she became AFMLTA President (2015-16). Kylie has sought funding and managed a range of Professional Learning projects to both generate income for MLTAV and provide opportunities for languages teachers including:
• SPP Bilingual Schools Network (2005 – current)
• SPP Mentoring for Beginning Languages Teachers (2008 – current) • MLTAV CLIL Network Facilitator (2014 - current)
Kylie has also managed a range of other projects which generate income for MLTAV and provide resources for languages teachers including:
• Early Childhood Languages Project Resource development (2019)
• DET Numeracy through Languages (2019)
• DET Digital Stories (2018)
Kylie values the opportunity to collaborate with the MLTAV executive and committee to support teachers of languages in the important work they do. Kylie's experience in engaging with stakeholders to position MLTAV as a key organisation for supporting the needs of languages teachers across Victoria combined with her experience as a primary teacher of Japanese and passion for provision of quality languages teaching are key things she brings to the MLTAV Vice-President role in 2020 and beyond.
Elena Pirovano, Secretary
Elena has been a teacher and an educator since 1992. After teaching for 14 years in Italy in primary and secondary schools, she moved abroad where she started teaching Italian as an additional language to children and adults in the US first, and then in Australia. Since 2010, she has been teaching Italian in Victorian primary schools. Within this
