MLTAV Linton Roe Workshop @ Mt. Ridley College 11/11/2019
About the Presenter:
During his twenty-two years as an educator, Linton has worked as a teacher, school leader, languages coach and educational consultant. He was integrally involved with Bayswater South Primary School's Bilingual Program for many years, during which time he undertook leading roles in many projects but especially in the development of CLIL pedagogy and the Victorian Government's Bilingual Schools Project. He is passionate about improving student learning outcomes through quality professional learning involving both teachers and students, where feedback is sought and used to plan and to encourage and assist all participants.
About the Workshop:
Having advertised this workshop in August, with a plan to offer it in November, there was a risk of reduced interest due to annual PL budgets having already been spent. We were, however, thanks to support from the Victorian Government, Department of Education and Training, able to offer a reduced registration rate to teachers from Government schools.
The limited places were filled very quickly! In fact, the demand far outweighed the available capacity. Sticking to the limit of 30 registrations was critical to ensuring the integrity of the planned hands-on activities. We did not want to jeopardise the planned outcomes due to overcrowding of the in-school allocated spaces.
We were pleased to be able to work with the Leadership Team at Mt. Ridley P-12 College, Craigieburn, to offer this in-school professional learning experience which not only provided us with the space to run teacher-only activities, but to also incorporate two sessions during the day during which the teachers in attendance were able to try out the activities with students. The first student session was run with a group of Years 3-4 students while the afternoon student session was run with a group of Year 7 students.
The model of hosting PL activities in a school setting has proved very valuable with other MLTAV projects, and this workshop once again demonstrated that value.
Throughout the day the participants, (a mix of primary and secondary school teachers), engaged with the presenter, Linton Roe, as well as each
