RACQUETS NEWS

Registrations for the 2019/2020 season of all Junior & Adult Racquets programming have been open since Wednesday, August 7th. Act fast and sign up for House Leagues, clinics, and Junior programming as there are limited slots available with a waitlist for most programs. Registrations will close for the fall programming on September 12th.
SQUASH
This four week introductory program is for players wanting to learn the game of squash. The grip, forehand, backhand, service, basic strategy and rules of the game will be taught. It will run for four consecutive Wednesday nights. This is a great clinic to get you involved in one of our house leagues.
Session 1: October 2nd – October 23rd Session 2: November 6th – November 27th
For our Singles players there are four evening house leagues to choose from:
The Monday Night House League is open to all players. In this league you are expected to play every week. There are five divisions and you play everyone in your division once.
The Tuesday Night House League has more flexibility and you can reschedule your match if you are unable to play on a particular Tuesday.
The Wednesday Night Women’s House League is a no- pressure, fun & social league. This is the perfect starting point for female players wanting to get involved in a league.
On Wednesday nights we’ll also have our ‘Top Dawgz’ House League which features the top squash players in our Club!
For our Doubles players, we also have four leagues to choose from:
two leagues on Monday Night (Novice & Intermediate) one on Tuesday Night (Advanced)
one on Wednesday Night (Intermediate/Advanced)
For the person looking for a casual drop-in, we offer a mixed doubles round robin on Saturday mornings.
BADMINTON
On Monday evenings we will be running introductory adult Badminton Clinics from 6:00pm – 7:00pm starting October 21st. This is a great way to learn the basics of badminton. The focus will be on basic shots such as the serve, forehand, backhand, and smash, as well as movements and strategies required to help you become a competent player. Games will be played at the end.
On Tuesday evenings we will be running an adult Round Robin Drop-In from 6:00pm – 7:30pm starting October 1st. This evening is brimming with fun and welcoming individuals that
are looking to enjoy the game of Badminton in a dynamic and interactive manner. Pairings and matchups are consistently shuffled to invite a social and lighthearted nature to the night.
JUNIOR PROGRAMS
For our Junior athletes we offer the following:
Little Junior Racquets Program for kids 3-5 years old on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
After-School Racquets Program on for kids 5–16 years old on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. The program’s focus is to get RCYC’s Junior Members playing squash & badminton while teaching each child the excellent values of exercise, meeting new friends, and taking the sport into adulthood. This program accommodates beginner & intermediate players alike.
Competitive Squash Program for advanced players on Tuesdays & Thursdays. This program is divided into two age/ skill groups: CSP ‘Blue’ (ages 11-14) & CSP ‘Gold’ (ages 14-16). The program focuses on developing our advanced juniors toward a high performance level and encourages them to compete in Squash Ontario sanctioned tournaments.
Junior Badminton Development Program for kids 10-16 years old on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons.
Junior High Performance program for more advanced juniors on Friday evenings.
If you can’t make it down to the City Clubhouse during the week, we offer a Saturday Morning Youth Racquets Program that mirrors our After-School Racquets program.
New this Fall in the Sports Department!
WEDNESDAY NIGHT SOCIAL RACQUETS LEAGUE
On Wednesday evenings starting at 6:30pm, the Sports Hall will host the Wednesday Night Social Racquets League. This is a fun evening where you can come out to play some badminton, a variation of pickleball, & table tennis while socializing with other racquet section members.
THURSDAY NIGHT 4 v 4 BASKETBALL LEAGUE
After the recent success of the World Champions: Toronto Raptors, we are going to start a trial 4-on-4 basketball league. We will run for four weeks from October 3rd - 24th. Cost TBD
SATURDAY AFTERNOON BEGINNER DOUBLES CLINIC/LEAGUE
This is a great introductory clinic & league to help you integrate into the doubles game! Clinics will run for 7 weeks starting on October 19th.
