CRUSING SAILORS’ SQUADRON HOST PAT YOUR BOAT DAY

On Sunday, Febuary 3rd a large group of Members visited the Island Clubhouse for our annual Pat Your Boat Day.
This event is a wonderful opportunity for Members and friends to visit the Island, and experience the Island Clubhouse during its winter hibernation.
The idea originated 40 years ago when three friends (Andrew Szonyi, Commodore Norton, and Commodore Wright) first began to journey over to the Island mid- winter. At the beginning it was an informal lunch on the stairs of the Sailing Office, and you could walk directly from the city across the frozen harbour by foot.
This years journey began at the city ferry docks, and the trip to the Wards Island docks saw open water in the harbour. There was even some open water in the lagoons at RCYC.
All the boats checked out, and a great lunch was had inside the workshop. After lunch Brian Monrad led a group over to St. Andrews By-the-Lake Church for a live jazz concert in one of the cities best venues for live music.
A big thank you to Mark Turuk who does all the hard work that makes the day a success.
