COMPARISON/CONTRAST ESSAY
Holidays are always celebrated no matter religion, beliefs,a or culture around the
world. Some are recognized more than others like are Halloween and Thanksgiving. These
holidays may seem vastly different, as they are two completely separate occasions, but in
actuality they do share very similar attributes. [Background]
Halloween and Thanksgiving are similar in diferent ways. First, both is a special day
for families to get together. In the same way, both share customs, the traditional Halloween
meal in The United States is pumpkin pie, [cookies shaped like pumpkins, ghosts or skulls,
candy, cakes made like a graveyard]. Likewise, the traditional Thanksgiving meal in Europe
[is a turkey, sweet potatoes, corn, and pumpkin pie]. All the members of the family get
together for dinner together.
Thanksgiving and Halloween are different in several ways. Thanksgiving is
th
celebrated on November 4 in The United States, but Halloween is celebrated on October 31
in Europe, [it has its roots in pagan celebrations for the end of the harvest season. In another
hand, each celebration has its own decoration]. In Halloween people decorate their houses
[with carve Jack o' Lanterns out of pumpkins, a ghoulish theme, parties, go trick or treating
door to door wearing costumes]. Meanwhile, in thanksgiving people decorate their tables
[with little tricks, from hand-written place cards to the use of unexpected colors and the doors
with a wheel of flowers similar to those used at Christmas].
To sum up, Halloween and Thanksgiving are recognized all over the world, everyone
loves holidays because we rest and have fun with our family and friends, in my opinion these
holidays are favorable and memorable days. [OPINION]
