some unfortunate properties suffered rising water. The City is trying to streamline our building
and permitting processes to expedite the recovery and make it easier for you to repair your
property. Many electric services meters and panels suffered wind, rain and rising water damage.
The City is concerned that although your meter may be energized by AEP and your house may
be receiving electricity, hidden damage may pose a significant safety risk. Therefore, the City
highly recommends that your service panel be inspected by a licensed electrician to ensure safe
functionality. This is not currently a requirement but just a suggestion. If, on inspection repairs
are deemed necessary, you may receive a “Red Tag” and/or find your meter disconnected. In
these instances, repairs will need to be permitted and completed by a licensed, registered
electrician. The City will WAIVE any permit fees related to this safety related- hurricane Harvey
based repair. If a building official deems the meter compromised or questionable, an inspection
and applicable permit for repairs WILL BE REQUIRED prior to any power restoration. When
completed simply call the City building department to arrange a safety inspection which will
allow for reconnect of power. Again, there no will be NO CHARGE for these specific permits.
               Sincerely,
               Rick Adams, Director Development Services
               City of Port Aransas
