Contractor’s signup and sticker
Per City of Rockport, volunteers groups rebuilding or repairing homes in Rockport, do not need
to sign up as a contractors. If they are questioned by city officials tell them what organization
you are working with.
Permits
All permits must be purchased in person at the Building Department office at 2751 Hwy 35
Bypass, Rockport, located on the west access road between Pearl and Market Streets.
Hours are 7 am-4 pm. Closed noon-1pm for lunch.
How much does a building permit cost?
This will depend on the construction value:
$1,000 and less = $25
$1,001 to $50,000 = $25 for the first $1,000 plus $5 for each additional thousand
$50,001 to $100,000 = $270 for the first $50,000 plus $4 for each additional thousand
$100,001 to $500,000 = $470 for the first $100,000 plus $3 for each additional thousand
$500,001 and up = $1,670 for the first $500,000 plus $2 for each additional thousand
How long does it take to get a building permit?
According to State Law (Added by Acts 2005, 79th Leg., ch. 917, 1, eff. Sept. 1, 2005. For text
of section as added by Acts 2005, 79th Leg., ch. 1130, 1. see 214.904 post), a building permit
application will be approved or denied within forty-five (45) days. However, the goal of the
Building Department is to complete plan review and have a building permit ready to issue within
ten (10) business days for one and two family residential and twenty (20) days for all other
development. This, however, depends on the number of applications ahead of you, resubmittal
of plan corrections or other requested items (engineering, etc.), which may extend the overall
time period.
Inspections
You may schedule an inspection for the same day by calling the Building Inspection
Department’s 24-hour Inspection Request Line, 361-790-1177, no later than 7:00 A.M. of the
day you need the inspection. Any inspection requests received after 7:00 a.m. will be scheduled
for the following business day.

2012 International Building Codes, 2008 International Electrical Codes, City Zoning Ordinance,
City Tree & Landscape Ordinance, and other applicable city ordinances and state laws.
