fundamental principles of teaching, research and service.
Much of health education is built on grassroots approaches
build upon building relationships with others to impact
change. I would hate to lose this model for what might be
considered as "cost-effective strategies" to promote
health. I believe establishing a relationship between health
educators and their clients is the best way to solidify
modification of behaviors.
What challenges do you think Gammans as health
education professionals will be dealing with in the next
decade?
As a profession, members of ESG will need to continue to
advocate for the profession and the need for prevention.
Ensuring quality health education, provided by a certified
health education specialist, for all students in K-12 settings
should be a priority. Obesity issues will be of significant
concern, however, I predict mental health will be a priority
area in future. As technology makes information readily
available, the focus of health will shift from gaining factual
information to dealing with the challenges of life, thus the
need to focus on developing mental health.
What five words best describe you?
Energetic, Passionate, Dedicated, Resourceful, and Weird
Any other comments/statements you wish to include?
Dr. Buzz Pruitt always said, "If you love what you are
doing, it's not work." I am so thankful to be involved in
ESG and a profession dedicated to serving others. I don't
believe I will "work" another day in my life.
