of these individuals not only provided me with the
knowledge and skills needed to be a professional but they
also were great role models.
What challenges do you think ESG as an organization
will face in the next decade?
I believe the greatest challenge that ESG faces in the future
is finding and keeping faculty members to serve the
organization as leaders and sponsors of the chapters. Prior
to my retirement, it was obvious that universities were not
placing a high value on the service provided by their
faculty members. As such, faculty members are forced to
spend most of their time on scholarship and teaching while
service comes in a distant third.
What challenges do you think Gammans as health
education professionals will be dealing with in the next
decade?
The challenge ahead is much like that of the past. Trying to
convince policy makers of the importance of prevention.
Many of the challenges we face as a nation dealing with
health and health care could be improved with a greater
focus on prevention. Financially, funding still is aimed at
cure and not prevention.
What five words best describe you?
Persistent, Hardworking, Honest, Service, and Teacher
