At Severance Middle School, we support students in becoming lifelong learners and problem-solvers who are prepared for high school and the world beyond. We create an environment that promotes enthusiasm for education and surrounds students with opportunities for learning. Our experienced teachers and caring staff members partner with parents to create a safe and constructive learning community that places students at the center.
LEADERS IN LEARNING
Severance Middle School’s inquiry-based approach encourages students to achieve. Across core academic subjects, students are taught to think rst, ask questions second, and respond using the evidence gathered. As a result, students are driving discussions in classrooms throughout our school and becoming leaders in their own learning.
Furthermore, experiential lessons—such as a science class taking part in an international data collection project on air pollution—engage students with their academic paths and invest them in their own futures. As does our partnership with Junior Achievement, which gives students access to local business professionals who bring real-world knowledge and experience to our classrooms.
ATHLETICS, ARTS, & EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Developing creative and critical thinking goes beyond the core curriculum. Severance Middle School students have the opportunity to develop skills and explore their passions through an abundance of extracurricular activities, including music classes in band and orchestra, choir, Drama Club, the Hawk Leadership Council, National Junior Honor Society, Science Bowl Team, and the rst–place winning Lego League Robotics Team. Athletic teams include basketball, cross-country, football, swimming and diving, track, volleyball, and wrestling.
