Build is an organization that uses entrepreneurship to educate underprivileged children and to help guide them to a successful future. They provide a four-year program aimed to build entrepreneurship, build exploration, and to build experience. Year 1: Build Entrepreneurship is when these children plan and launch a small business. This is meant to demonstrate to them what their strengths and weaknesses are. This program counts for credit in their school because it is an in-school program and taught by a teacher. In Year 2: Build Exploration is when these children grow the business or start a new one. They also explore college and career opportunities for their future. Essentially showing them a path for success. This part of the program is after-school and teacher facilitated. As opposed to year one, the second year is not for credit. In Year 3 and 4: Build Experience, the children “participate in expanded business and/or community internship” which helps them experience career options. They also guide them through the college application process. These two years are also after school programs. opportunities. BUILD has the resources to bring their education to the students and their target market is underprivileged children, however, they are not based in Atlanta. Their locations involve: The Bay Area, Greater Boston, Metro DC, NYC, and Los Angeles. However, they have a clear disadvantage which is the duration of the program (4 years) as compared to GivingPoint Institute's 10- month program.
Stanford’s Social Enterprise targets High School students and helps them build “effective and efficient business-based solutions to social problems” (Summerfuel). It is a summer program lasting from July 01-July 21 and the students can be anywhere from grades 9-12. The core curriculum of this program focuses on research and discovery, operations and logistics, marketing, finance, and sustainability and scalability. Research and discovery is teaching the students the best research practices and what your company is and is not doing. It also helps them to research whether or not they can do better. Operations and logistics teaches the students about what they will need to go forth with their focused projects.
