Macalester College in Minnesota, and now Emory University in Georgia. Dogs are a quick way to grab people’s attention and promote the organization in a fun way. The dogs benefit, the organization benefits, and the students do as well. If there is merchandise for the organization then promoting it during this event can be a possibility as well since there can be a decent turnout during this event. Georgia State University had a fraternity host an event similar to this previously and the turnout was large enough that students wanted this event to happen again.
Grant Writer
Most grants require an audit of financials in order to apply. This is to show validity in the financials and where the money is going within the organization. It establishes a sense of trust and ease with regards to money. In regard to a grant, it is a sum of money given by either an organization or the government for a specific purpose. Giving Point must first audit their financials before applying for grants in order to ensure acceptance. There are “nearly $77 billion are awarded every year in the U.S. through corporate and foundational grants” (A- State Online). Once applying for a grant, it is suggested to hire a grant writer to ensure the highest quality outcome when writing a proposal. Grant writers can be hired anywhere between 500-7500 dollars depending on the length of the narrative. Grant writers, however, do not work on commission, therefore, they cannot be paid using grant money. “If you try to hire someone before your nonprofit is grant ready, you’re going to waste a lot of time and money” (Professional Grant Writers). It is preferred to wait until there are available funds to hire a grant writer. They are a valuable resource due to their past connections and experience in grant writing. It is also necessary to have a steady revenue stream because most “foundations want to see that you have money coming in before they give you money. They want to make sure your organization isn’t going to fold, that their investment won’t go to waste” (Professional Grant Writers). This is essentially a business transaction and the organization wants to know their investment will be in good hands and will not go to a failing project. Essentially, it is a good idea to get a grant writer in the future, but currently it is ill- advised.
