GivingPoint Project Report
•••
GivingPoint hosts its annual SPARKS event for students of the GivingPoint Institute. This would be an excellent opportunity for partnership with companies. In the example with Junior Achievement, Chick-fil-a sponsors the organization and provides lunch for volunteers, students, and staff at their events. GivingPoint could recreate a similar partnership with Chick-fil-a or a similar organization. This does not only apply to companies in the food industry but every other industry as well. For example, a partnership with a company like Staples can provide stationary and other materials or services for the SPARKS event and other events GivingPoint plans to host in the future.
Expenses
One concern identified after reviewing the financial information provided to us was the high level of cash outflows from a few expenses listed in the income statement. Furthermore, alternatives to reduce or eliminate some of these expenses have been identified and are discussed below.
Advertising and Promotion represented 17% of total expenses. Based on comparative data from similar nonprofit organizations only, advertising and promotion costs represented 0.28% and 4.6% of total expenses for Build and Junior Achievement, respectively. One way to reduce this expense is to consider the suggestion made in the corporate sponsorship section above. By partnering with corporate sponsors, not only will GivingPoint earn revenue but their visibility will also increase. Furthermore, utilizing social media can also reduce some of these costs. While most social media platforms do charge a fee for reaching larger audiences, a well-managed social media page with the healthy following can have many benefits that will reduce these costs.
