guitar plus organ. ‘Fortunate Few’ is a melodic 12-bar and ‘Crack In The Wall’ is a heart-breaking,
beautiful country ballad, then it’s back to the blues with a fine version of Mr. Mayall’s ‘The Laws
Must Change’ and Billy Joe Shaver’s ‘Honey Bee’ is another change of pace – a chugging Cajun song
with accordion from Jan Flemming. ‘On My Feet Again’ is a nice jazzy song and she also puts a

jazzy, almost Western Swing spin on Dylan’s ‘It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry’-
where she shares the vocals with Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Cindy Cashdollar adds pedal steel - and
we finish with The Grateful Dead’s ‘Loser’ a seven minute trippy, melodic ballad with a frantic
guitar solo and very emotional vocals. This is a fine piece of work with Carolyn’s own songs being
just as good as the covers and both her playing and singing being excellent throughout, enhanced

by good production from Mr. Alvin.

Apparently Lindsay Beaver & Brad Stivers are both band leaders

in their own right with their own albums to their names but they
got together to record this record and I'm so glad that they did,
they have produced a wonderful album of eleven original songs
and one authentic cover - The Falcons' R&B classic 'You're So

Fine’. Lindsay is Canadian and Brad is originally from Colorado
but both have now relocated to Austin, Texas where they met,
however this album was recorded in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the
studio of Garrett Mason. We start with the rocking ‘One

Condition’ with both singing in unison and a nice guitar solo from guest Kirk Fletcher, then Lindsay
steps out front to belt out the blues (Alligator Records’ Bruce Iglauer has described her as a
combination of Amy Winehouse and Little Richard!) on ‘I Know What to Do’ with superb blues harp

from Joe Murphy. Then its Brad on guitar and vocals on the delicious slow blues ‘Hesitate’, while
Lindsay fronts the perky 50s-style rocker ‘See You Again’ with Mr. Mason adding a guitar solo and
the 50s sounds continue on the jump blues ‘Getting Gone’ with its driving organ from Barry Cooke.

‘Take It Slow’ is a blues ballad with Lindsay testifying, ‘Be Alright’ is a slab of Texas blues with
Brad on guitar and vocals and Lindsay is back to sing ‘You’ve Got No Right’ which has Zach Zunis
(from the band of Janiva Magness) on guitar. More unison singing on the shuffle ‘It’s Love’ before
Brad fronts the tough slow blues ‘Somebody Else Will’, ‘Slim Pickin’ is a jump blues instrumental

featuring Brad’s guitar and Cooke’s organ and we bow out with ‘You’re So Fine’ with just Lindsay
on guitar and vocals. This is a really great record featuring two amazing musicians in their 30s who
have completely mastered these vintage styles and have created an album with lots of variety and
    great playing and singing throughout.
