SPACES
Delicate balance
Where: Mjejane Game Reserve
What: A blend of modern and classic design, this home is divided into cool, spacious entertaining areas and individual bedroom suites. These are connected by paths of packed earth that meander through bustling natural grasses and rocks. A mix of concrete and stone has been used – cladded reinterpretations of African tented bush camps. The signature stone-clad tower acts as a focusing pivot, which provides balance to the competing angles and elements of the house. The lounge, kitchen and dining areas flow along an organic, curved viewing deck made from planks of recycled, compressed rice husks. Large, aluminum-framed glass doors open onto a bio-filtered swimming pool, built with rocks from the surrounding area. Magnificent views over the Crocodile River and into the Kruger are the icing on this classic cake.
