ESF Beacon Hill School                                                                                                                                                       Message from the Principal









                                                                                                                               The 2016-17 Academic Year was a year when we continued building on the achievements

                                                                                                                               and successes of previous years. Some of our priorities were around building greater
                                                                                                                               opportunities for single-subject teachers to plan more collaboratively with year group

                                                                                                                               teachers to enhance the transdisciplinary experiences the students were having; beginning

                                                                                                                               to develop more open-ended and differentiated problem-solving approaches within the
                                                                                                                               learning and teaching of Maths with support from Dr. Peter Sullivan and ESF; deepening

                                                                                                                               our use of technology through more resourcing of 1:1 laptops and training for staff;
                                                                                                                               promoting opportunities for students in our gifted and talented programme; introducing

                                                                                                                               the ‘Evidencer’ to allow parents and students to have access to online portfolios; the
                                                                                                                               planning and refurbishment of half of the classrooms; the introduction of ‘growth mindset’

                                                                                                                               as a way of thinking and being.
                                                                                                                               In addition to these main priorities, much work was accomplished in other areas of the

                                                                                                                               curriculum and beyond.



                                                                                                                               For the coming year, we will be working on three key priorities under the objective that

                                                                                                                               ‘Successful learners are able to articulate their thinking.’



                                                                                                                               Reading
                                                                                                                               To enable students to use different strategies to understand

                                                                                                                               what they read, hear and see, and to explain their thinking.



                                                                                                                               Writing
                                                                                                                               To develop students’  awareness of the power of language

                                                             School                                                            Good mathematicians  are  able to clearly
