“Señorita, I wish to be your husband for life. I would ask Ramon for the blessings of this
union. We would be married here in your country, according to your customs and invite
everyone. Then, we will be married again when we get back to New Mexico. I know and have
known for some time, that you are the one that matters.”
Ramon looked at his sister and could tell by looking into her eyes, that it was her wish to be
with this Americano. He knew how she felt, because he felt the same thing for the girl who had
saved his life and nursed him back to health. He asked his sister, how she felt about marrying
the Señor from north of the border and she said.
“Si brother, I would be a good esposa to this man. He is the man who has won my heart and
the same one who has saved my life and the man I would choose above all others.”
This disappointed some of the younger men at the table but even they could tell she spoke the
truth.
Ramon drank the wine and said,
“It will be as my sister wishes.”
Gideon stood, shook the hand of the young Haciendado and then turned to Rosemarie and
embraced her.
“And, now Ramon, what announcement were you going to make on this special night?” asked
Gideon.
Ramon said,
“While I was regaining my strength in the campo of the Indios, I also found, as Señor Thacker
puts it, the one that matters. The girl named Ya-nee-Juwa has also agreed to become my wife!”
“Mañana Raul, Carlos and myself will take gifts to the campo Indios and I will bring back my
bride.”
