SPOTLIGHT
Still on Point
New Owner for Lakeway Shop
Lakeway’s Point of Origin may be a quarter-
century old, but new owner Ali Trapp is keeping
the boutique fresh and true to its origin: to be
the one-stop shop for apparel, home goods and
gifts for everyone.
To that end self-professed shopaholic Trapp
is introducing new products and brands, with a
particular focus on locally made items alongside
nationally recognized niche brands, such as
Ronaldo Designer Jewelry.
Owning a boutique has been a lifelong dream
for Trapp. To fulfill that dream she convinced her
family to move from New Jersey to the Lake
Travis area. Says Trapp, “I spent years looking at
boutiques to buy or space to open my own.
Finally one night I looked at my husband and said,
‘Why not!’ and we went for it without hesitation.”
As part of her efforts to be active in her
new community, Trapp not only is continuing
the store’s tradition of partnering with local
charitable and civic organizations but is also
expanding outreach efforts by offering, for
example, a discount each month to different
In The Pink professionals who serve the community,
such as teachers and first responders.
Sometimes Embracing Salt Can Be Healthful Point of Origin is located in the Lohmans
Crossing Shopping Center.
Living in the alleged Allergy Capital of the World can be brutal at times. Spend-
ing time at Austin Salt Cave might help.
Halotherapy is the use of salt—in this case, a dry salt aerosol—to benefit
health, particularly respiratory and skin conditions. Owner Jack Cramer became
interested in it after visiting a halotherapy facility while on vacation. The salty air
helped the native Austinite’s asthma and seasonal allergies, and he decided to
open his own halotherapy center at home to help others.
“Austin being notorious for year-round allergies was absolutely a factor in
the decision to open a salt room here,” says Cramer. He believes his facility can
“make a difference in people’s everyday life.”
No spelunking is required to reach the salt cave. It’s actually a large room
lined with 11 tons of Himalayan salt. Participants in a 45-minute session relax PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF AUSTIN SALT CAVE AND POINT OF ORIGIN
in lounge chairs and breathe in the salt-treated air. The microscopic-size salt
particles in theory penetrate deep into lung and skin tissues. The salt’s anti-
bacterial properties deter unhealthful microbes that can contribute to such
conditions as asthma, hay fever and psoriasis.
Austin Salt Cave is located at 2951 Ranch Road 620 South Suite 102 and at
