Class Activity
(1) Listen/Read (15 mins):
• Have the whole class listen to the radio drama recording.
(2) Perform/Produce (45 mins):
• Invite one group of students to perform the play to class.
• Each student chooses a role to play: Jingyi, Donna, Jack, Evie.
• Class divides into two teams and argue for/against using the school for Chinese supplementary schooling amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Start with the last line and continue with the debate: “And if we do...who do you think is going to win?”
• Imagine the four characters are having a meeting to discuss a contingency plan. Each of the characters must come from a different angle in
putting forward their arguments for/against using the school as a teaching space amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
(3) Group Discussion (30 mins):
• What is the context of this story?
• What are the hidden messages around racial and ethnic diversity in this drama?
• What are the conflicts between the Chinese supplementary school and Mr Williams in this story?
• How are children from various racial/ethnic groups affected during the lockdown?
• How do you feel about ‘the Chinese virus’?
