close friend or relative encouraged you. You
have, and so have I. Sometimes it works out,
and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes we need
that person to kick us in the butt to get us
moving. We all have been inspired to try to
capture the zeal of what others experience.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with having
those experiences. Often, they lead us to where
we really want to go.
I remember when I trained for my first 26.2-
mile marathon. I set the goal, and within six
months I was ready to experience the worst
pain that I think I have ever experienced. For
those distance runners out there, you know the
term, "The Wall." I still managed to finish in
under four hours. My goal was to just survive. I
hit what is called 'the runner's wall' at the
twenty-two-mile mark. What I found shocking
was the fact that at nineteen miles, I had a surge
of energy (endorphin rush) that propelled me to
start running under a seven-minute pace. The
endorphins quickly left my bloodstream as well
as most of the nutrients required to put one
foot in front of the other. After about a week
