8-3. Fire Safety
In addition to fire suppression systems throughout the building, Erbe also has fire extinguishers located throughout the building. For a listing of the locations of these fire extinguishers as well as more detail regarding fire safety and evacuation procedures, please refer to the safety procedures posted on the Erbe intranet site.
8-4. Accidents
Even with a goal to provide a safe and healthy workplace, accidents may occur. Employees must follow all accident and injury reporting procedures. This will ensure prompt attention to any injury, prompt processing of a claim and the correction of unsafe conditions. In the event of an accident, employees should notify their manager and Human Resources immediately, regardless of the severity.
8-5. Workers’ Compensation
Workers’ Compensation coverage is provided to all employees. Since this is regulated by law, Erbe is required to file certain reports with the state. Medical treatment is provided in cases of work- related injury and covers medical charges as a result of that injury.
Erbe has established relationships with area medical facilities to expedite this treatment. A list of these panel physicians is posted on the company’s bulletin boards. For employees who do not work in Georgia, Human Resources will provide additional resources in locating a physician. An employee’s return to work is coordinated with the panel physician through the company’s workers’ compensation carrier. In all cases, employees are required to see panel physicians for treatment expenses to be covered by the insurance carrier.
8-6. First Aid Supplies
Basic first aid supplies are located throughout the offices (i.e. kitchen, copier room, technical service department and warehouse). For the location of these first aid kits, please consult the Erbe safety policy published on the company intranet site. Erbe also has an automated external defibrillator (AED) that can assist in assessing a cardiac condition and deliver electric shock to help revive victims. This device, located on the wall in the first-floor copy room, should only be used by employees that have received approved training.
8-7. Workstation Comfort
Erbe has developed a modern workstation to help employees work in a safe and comfortable manner. Employees should learn how to properly adjust, or have adjusted, the different pieces of furniture and equipment at their workstation.
The key to working comfortably is to make sure the body is in a relaxed, neutral position, especially when performing the same tasks for long periods of time. Erbe, in its discretion, may approve certain set-up changes to an employee’s workstation if such changes will significantly improve the employee’s ability to function comfortably. Employees should bring to the manager’s attention any workstation needs or to request assistance with workstation options.
